Dr. Welch, Silver Fern Healthcare Co-Founder and CSO, featured guest on “The Public Health Podcast”

Listen to The Public Health Podcast – How We Can Get Ahead of Chronic Disease featuring Dr. Garry Welch!

Dr. Garry Welch, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Silver Fern Healthcare, was recently invited to speak about his expertise in chronic disease management on “The Public Health Podcast.” The podcast is produced by a team of NPR veterans and is hosted by Ryan Birchmeier and Katie Fendler, a brother-sister duo that is “bringing the public back into public health.” The hosts both work in the healthcare industry, but on opposite ends of the spectrum – Katie is a nurse practitioner at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Ryan works in healthcare PR at Thunder11. The conversation with Dr. Welch was titled, “How We Can Get Ahead of Chronic Disease.”

Dr. Welch was invited onto the podcast to discuss how our healthcare system manages and supports patients living with chronic diseases. He explained how primary care excels at treating acute diseases and injuries like a nagging cough or a broken bone, but that complicated financial incentives have slowed the transition to patient-centered care and made it challenging for primary care to provide the complex, life-long support necessary to prevent and treat chronic conditions. The conversation also touched on related topics, such as the natural mechanisms within the human body that fight chronic conditions and new technologies that support sustainable change in patients living with chronic diseases.
