Silver Fern Healthcare Receives Hartford Business Journal’s Healthcare Hero Award in the Area of Prevention

Hartford, Conn., November 3, 2021 — Silver Fern Healthcare was named a 2021 honoree of the Hartford Business Journal’s Healthcare Heroes Awards. Silver Fern Healthcare is a woman-owned, woman-led, Connecticut-based healthcare innovator that is transforming chronic disease prevention and care with its evidence-based, clinically validated behavior diagnostic and decision support assessment modules and platform.

This year, the Healthcare Heroes Awards recognize sixteen individuals and companies in eleven categories for their outstanding leadership in the healthcare industry during the COVID pandemic. Silver Fern Healthcare received the award for Healthcare Prevention, recognizing the organization’s effort to advance preventative patient care.

Despite uncertainty and challenges in the healthcare industry over the last two years, Silver Fern has used its platform to help the public focus on prevention.

“It has been our mission throughout the pandemic to help the public understand the role that good health – for individuals and communities – has on preventing the worst outcomes of COVID, or any future pandemic,” said Colleen A. McGuire, Co-Founder & CEO. “It is humbling to be recognized alongside such an astounding group of health care heroes – individuals and organizations – that have contributed courageously to the state’s COVID response efforts. We believe that this validates the work we are doing to illuminate the vital need for America to have an effective and universal effort toward chronic disease prevention that focuses on addressing the factors that truly drive health outcomes: daily behaviors and psychological and social factors.”

Silver Fern’s Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Garry Welch, PhD., developed several pieces, including an article in MedCity News, and several on his own blog, about how COVID-19 has demonstrated the grave need for us to invest in chronic disease prevention and support by building stronger, deeper relationships with patients and families, and by focusing more on the environmental, social, and psychological factors that lead to chronic disease and that impact long-term disease management.

Silver Fern has also invested in building products that are focused on COVID and that leverage the organization’s proven approach and technology to unlock essential information quickly and effectively. Silver Fern recently developed an assessment to get at the underlying reasons for COVID-vaccine hesitancy and a program for helping patients experiencing long-COVID.

The honorees of the Healthcare Heroes Awards were selected by a panel of independent judges and will be celebrated with a ceremony on Thursday, November 18th in Farmington, CT.
